What the circular says

Clause 9.1 of Regulation 33(10) of the Development Control and Promotion Regulations, 2034 requires the owner, developer or society to deposit ₹40,000 per tenement — including the welfare hall and balwadi in the rehab component, and permanent transit camp tenements — with the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, according to a schedule laid down by the CEO, SRA, and in full by the time the hutment dwellers occupy the tenements.

Following decisions taken at a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on 24.07.2020, and to expedite slum rehabilitation schemes, the SRA modified its Circular No. 07 of 25.11.1997. The owner, developer or society must now deposit ₹40,000 per rehabilitation tenement before the occupation certificate is granted to the rehab building or composite building. The circular applies with immediate effect, and maintenance deposits already paid under the earlier policy are not refunded or adjusted.

What it means for rehab societies

The maintenance deposit is meant to support the upkeep of the rehab building after it is handed over. A society of rehab tenement holders should check that the deposit has been made before occupation, and how and when the interest on it is to be released for maintenance.
